Woman in LaPorte County Killed One - Charged With Nine Felonies

A 20 year old woman from LaPorte County, Amanda Buchta, was charged with nine felonies after she was involved in a fatal crash last year.

Buchta was westbound on US Highway 6 when she went off the right side of the road. She then over-corrected and crossed the center line, hitting a semi-truck heading eastbound.

Her front seat passenger, Adam Candlar, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sierra Marquardt, a passenger in the rear seat, was also seriously injured. The truck driver, James Stetter, was not injured.

After an initial blood test, Buchta registered 51.9 ng/ml of a marijuana metabolite with a blood alcohol content of .03 percent. She was then charged with two Class B felonies, five Class C felonies, two Class D felonies, and three misdemeanors.

Class B felonies are punishable by a term of six to 20 years, and Class C felonies are two to eight years.
