Woman Sustains Internal Injuries In Accident at State Road 26

Posted on Nov 24, 2008

A two vehicle accident on Saturday night, November 22, 2008, near Sedalia sent Jean M. Perkins, 85, of Bringhurst, to a Lafayette hospital Sunday after suffering internal injuries.

Perkins was transported by ambulance to Clarian Arnett Hospital in Lafayette after her car was "t-boned" on the driver's side by another vehicle in the area of State Road 26 West near State Road 75 North.

Peter S. Mitchell, 22, Russiaville, the driver of a 2000 BMW 540I that approached the intersection of State Road 75 along State Road 26, the report states. Mitchell noticed Perkins' 1989 Buick Century approaching the intersection and reportedly expected her to stop at a stop sign. Instead, she proceeded through the intersection, and Mitchell's vehicle was unable to avoid a collision.

According to authorities, Perkins' failure to yield at the intersection was the primary and only cause of the accident. A "flashing signal" traffic control device was operational at the time.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Total damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.
