Young Couple Killed In Fiery Car Accident In New Castle, Indiana

An out-of-control car that had been acting erratically slammed into the back of vehicle stopped at a stop light on Indiana 3 in Muncie, killing the young couple inside.

According to the Courier-Journal, 67-year-old Samie McBride of New Castle was seen swerving in and out of traffic, running red lights, and driving recklessly on Highway 3 in the minutes before she slammed into a car at an intersection containing 32-year-old Stacy Penrose-Sweigart and her husband, 30-year-old Jason Sweigart, both also of New Castle. The Sweigart’s car burst into flames and instantly killed the couple, who leave behind a five-year-old son.

McBride’s car drove another 300 feet before rolling over and coming to a stop. The driver was airlifted Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in serious condition. New Castle Police are investigating the accident and say that they have little idea what could have caused the accident at this point. Currently, they believe that drugs, alcohol, a medical emergency, or a mechanical problem could have been factors in the crash. Authorities are awaiting blood test results and further investigating the crash itself.

These were the fourth and fifth traffic accident deaths in Henry County, Indiana, in July 2011.
