The first significant winter storm in Indiana brought with it a rash of car accidents and truck accidents along the state's interstates. Police warned drivers to stay off the roads during the storm - and to slow down and drive carefully if they absolutely needed to drive.

Icy Roads And Winter Weather Leads To Multiple Indiana Accidents

Bitterly cold weather paired with the season’s first large winter storm caused a rash of car accidents and truck crashes on Indiana roads on the weekend of December 13. Indiana officials said that although they had a fleet of an estimated 900 plows clearing interstates and roadways across the state, the low temperatures made it difficult to melt ice and snow off of the roads and prevent car accidents.

Indiana State Police responded to several serious car accidents caused by the winter weather on Interstate 64, Interstate 164, and Highway 41. In general, authorities told Indiana residents to stay off of the roads altogether if possible and the exercise extreme caution if forced to travel. Police also told those who are involved in accidents to move their cars off of the roadway if at all possible in the wake of an accident.
