· According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS), there were 123,918 large commercial truck crashes in 2008.

· Of those crashes, 49,084 large truck crashes resulted in injury, and a total of 73,047 people were seriously injured in those crashes.

· There were 3,944 fatal truck crashes across the country in 2008, for a total of 4,808 fatalities.

· In Indiana, there were 142 fatal truck crashes in 2007, and a total of 147 people were killed because of truck accidents. There were 4,614 truck crashes in total and a total of 1,330 injuries.

· In Michigan, there were 114 fatal truck crashes in 2007, and a total of 123 deaths due to truck crash injuries. In 2008, there were a total of 809 truck crashes that resulted in injury, with 1,054 people brought to the hospital because of truck crash injuries.

· In Illinois, 148 fatal truck crashes took place in 2007, with a total of 154 lives lost due to truck accidents. There were 2,477 serious truck crashes that resulted in injury and 3,643 injuries in total from truck collisions.

· In New Mexico, there were 60 fatal truck crashes in 2007 and 188 truck crashes that involved serious injury. In 2008, 289 people were seriously injured in truck crashes.
