Driver critically injured after crashing into back of truck on U.S. 31

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, MI - A rear-end collision on northbound U.S. 31 last week left one of the drivers critically injured, MLive.com reports.

The accident occurred March 20 near Felch Street in Holland Township.  According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a moving van was headed north on U.S. 31 at about 1:54 p.m.  A semi-tractor tanker was stopped on the highway and the van driver could not stop in time, colliding with the back of the tanker.

The van driver, a 30-year-old man from Holland Township, was transported to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital and was listed in critical condition.  The truck driver, a 30-year-old man from Benton Harbor, was not injured.  No one else was in either vehicle.

The wreck shut down U.S. 31 in both directions while emergency crews responded to the scene.
