Driver dead after crashing into tree in Buchanan Township

BUCHANAN TOWNSHIP, MI - A driver died in a fiery van accident in Berrien County Monday morning, according to Michigan State Police.

WBND reported details of the crash, which happened near the 14000 block of Range Line Road in Buchanan Township at about 6:45 a.m. An investigation by State Police determined that the driver of a Ford 250 Transit van was headed south, drove off the right side of the roadway, and crashed head-on into a tree.

The vehicle went up in flames and the driver, who was trapped inside, was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity was not immediately released.

Michigan State Police officers are investigating the fatal wreck. Investigators are still trying to determine whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
