Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Police in Indianapolis were dispatched to the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident early Wednesday morning, WTHR reports.

The incident took place on the city's northwest side at Zionsville Road and West 86th Street, where officers responded at about 5:45 a.m.  The drivers of a bus and a semi had reported seeing a male lying in the roadway.  The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators described the case as a possible hit-and-run.  No description of the vehicle involved has been released.  Police are trying to find surveillance footage from the area that may have captured what happened.

The death is under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
