The Most Dangerous Intersections In Lake County and Porter County, Indiana
The Indiana Department of Transportation has released a report of the most dangerous intersections in Gary, Indiana, including all intersection in Lake County and Porter County. Indiana State authorities hope that identifying these dangerous and deadly intersections will help focus their efforts to add safety features were they are needed and to increase traffic law enforcement in those areas.
Data used in the report was collected between 2006 and 2009.
• The intersection of Indiana 49 and Vale Park Road has seen three fatal car accidents in the past three years and many more other crashes. It was named the deadliest intersection in Gary. • The intersection of Colfax Street at West 27th Avenue, at the Interstate 80/94 underpass in Gary tied for the second most dangerous intersection in the Indiana city. • The intersection and U.S. 20 and Dombey Road in Portage also tied for second most dangerous intersection in the Lake and Porter Counties. • The intersection of U.S. 30 and Rhode Island in Merrillville saw one fatality, 133 cases of car accident property damage, and two serious injuries in the last three years. • The intersection of U.S. 6 and County Line in Hobart recorded 35 instances of car accident property damage and four serious injuries resulting from car accidents. • The intersection of Indiana 53 and North in Crown Point saw 51 car accident property damage reports and three reports of serious injuries. • The intersection of U.S. 41 and Martha in Highland, Indiana reported one fatal car accident and three serious injuries since 2006. • The intersection of Kennedy and 165th in Hammond, IN, saw 29 instances of property damage and four serious injuries due to car crashes. • The intersection of Indiana 49 and Indian Boundary in Chesterton tallied one fatal car crash, 89 reports of property damage, and one serious injury
