Pfizer Recalls IV Drugs
Pfizer, the US distributor of the drugs, announced that antibiotics metronidazole and ciprofloxacin along with a third drug that treat nausea could be potentially harmful to some patients because of unsterile floating matter seen in some of the products. The company, along with the FDA has warned doctors, hospitals, and other medical facilities to stop using the drugs immediately. The prescription drug recall came about after federal regulators alerted the drug company to the issue. IN addition to recalling the above drugs, Pfizer has also recalled a number of other medical products that are either injectable or that use an IV.
Pfizer believes that the drugs were tainted during the manufacturing process at its drug plant. Pfizer has 80 percent of the recalled drug in its possession already and has not yet received news of any harmed patients.
