Man, woman hospitalized after Wayne Township motorcycle crash

CASS COUNTY, MI - Authorities were called to the scene of a motorcycle accident in Cass County on Wednesday afternoon.

WWMT reports the incident happened on Marcellus Highway and Griffith Road in Wayne Township. According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, a motorcyclist was going west on Marcellus Highway shortly before 3:30 p.m. when the bike began to experience mechanical issues.

The rider lost control and crashed into the eastbound lane.  The operator of the motorcycle, 54-year-old Robert Rudd of Decatur, and his passenger, 44-year-old Melisa Menzies of Elkhart, Indiana, were taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital.  No details were released on their conditions.  Neither person was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, investigators said.

At this time, it is not believed that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
