Indiana Construction Worker Injured In Fall Through Hole

On Tuesday, January 13, a construction worker at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana, was seriously injured when he fell through a hole ten feet to the floor below.

The injured Indiana worker was employed by New Castle, Indiana-based subcontractor Hoosier Steel. He was working on the $100 million renovation of the Mackey Arena at the time of the worker accident. He was loading metal decking onto the fourth floor penthouse of the structure when he stepped into the hole.

The unnamed worker was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center after the Perdue Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident. He suffered an arm injury in the fall.

Hoosier Steel is beginning an investigation into the construction worker fall accident. It is unclear if other safety organizations will also conduct an investigation. Hundreds of serious worker falls take place each year in Indiana.
