PECOS, NM - New Mexico State Police said an accident north of Pecos on Sunday evening claimed the life of a teenage driver.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports it happened at about 6:30 p.m. on New Mexico 63 near the Lisboa Springs Hatchery.
An investigation determined that the driver of a Chevrolet SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed and was not able to negotiate a turn in the roadway, leading to the crash. The SUV rolled and the driver, a 17-year-old boy, was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three young people who were passengers sustained minor injuries. NSMP are investigating the incident and trying to determine whether alcohol was a contributing factor.
