2 dead after vehicle crashes into utility pole in Artesia

ARTESIA, NM - A car wreck in Artesia on Thursday night left two people dead, reports the Artesia Daily Press.

The crash happened in the area of North 13th Street and West Mahone Drive.  According to the Eddy County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette was headed north on 13th Street and collided with a utility pole at about 11:30 p.m.

The driver and the passenger, whose names have not been released, died at the scene.   Damage to the power lines resulting from the crash caused a temporary power outage in the area and shut down the road to Memorial Drive at Artesia General Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation by the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office’s Crash and Reconstruction unit.
