2 dead after vehicle goes over cliff on New Mexico 539

RIO ARRIBA COUNTY, NM - Two people were killed when their car crashed in Rio Arriba County on Sunday evening, the New Mexico State Police said.

State Police responded to the scene in the area of New Mexico 539 and New Mexico 511 after the incident occurred at about 6 p.m.

The initial investigation found that the driver of a 2003 Subaru was driving on NM 539 when she failed to negotiate a tight curve and the vehicle went over a cliff.  The driver, identified as 31-year-old Rachel Kahwajy, and her passenger, 53-year-old Glenn Taketa, were pronounced dead at the scene.  Both were residents of Farmington, New Mexico.

NMSP are continuing to investigate the cause of the wreck.
