PORTAGE, MI - A collision in Portage on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a bicycle rider, local public safety officials said.
A report by WWMT stated that the bicyclist was trying to cross West Centre Avenue when the incident occurred at about 2:54 p.m. Investigators said he was struck by a vehicle in the area between Oakland Drive and Creekside Drive.
The bike rider, a 20-year-old Portage man, died of his injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 76-year-old woman, was not injured. The names of the bicyclist and the driver were not immediately disclosed.
West Centre Avenue was shut down for the accident investigation.
