6-year-old killed, several injured in Shelby County collision

SHELBY COUNTY, IN - A child was killed in a multi-vehicle collision in Shelby County on Saturday evening, according to WISH TV.

Investigators said the driver of a 2005 Ford Explorer was traveling east on State Road 44 when the incident happened at about 6 p.m.  As the driver stopped to make a turn onto C.R. 600E, the Ford was struck from behind by a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe whose driver did not slow down or swerve to avoid the collision.  The impact caused the Ford to spin into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a westbound Chrysler Town and Country.

A 6-year-old child from Fairland who was a passenger in the Ford suffered fatal injuries.  Multiple other people were injured in the wreck and transported to area hospitals.
