Arrest made in hit-and-run that killed pedestrian in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, IN - The Lawrence Police Department said a suspect has been charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred late Sunday night, according to a WRTV report.

Investigators determined that a woman was walking across Franklin Road near Records Street at about 11:15 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle headed south.  The victim was pronounced dead after being transported to Eskenazi Hospital. She was identified as 30-year-old Jasmine D. Singleton.

Police said the driver involved kept heading south on Franklin Road without stopping to help.  Lawrence detectives reviewed evidence including surveillance video and license plate data, and located the vehicle believed involved in the crash - a black 2015 Chevrolet Equinox SUV.  They subsequently found the alleged driver, an 18-year-old man, and arrested him.

The suspect was charged preliminarily with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in fatality.  According to police, the man said he did not see the pedestrian until it was too late and then drove off in panic.
