Bicycle rider dies after being struck by car in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, NM - Police say a man riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a vehicle in Las Cruces, according to the Las Cruces Sun News.

The accident happened June 3 on Idaho Avenue near the intersection with Alamo Street.  An investigation found that the bicyclist and an Infiniti SUV were both heading westbound on Idaho Avenue at about 10:45 a.m.

The SUV struck the bicycle from behind and the rider died after being flown to a hospital in El Paso.  The victim was identified as 37-year-old Francisco Hernandez.

The 23-year-old woman driving the SUV stayed at the crash scene and cooperated with investigators.  Police are continuing to investigate the incident and said that so far no charges have been filed.
