INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Police were called to the scene of a fatal bicycle accident in downtown Indianapolis on Thursday morning, according to a WTHR report.
The incident occurred in the 500 block of South West Street, where officers arrived at about 11:15 a.m. It was determined by investigators that a bicyclist was struck by a dump truck that was making a turn onto the street. The bicycle rider, whose name was not released, was declared dead at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. It had not yet been determined whether the bicyclist was on the street or the sidewalk when they were struck.
The driver of the dump truck remained at the site of the accident.
