Collision at Elkhart County intersection sends 2 drivers to hospital

ELKHART COUNTY, IN - Two drivers were hospitalized after their vehicles collided in Elkhart County on Monday afternoon.

According to a report by WBND, the incident happened near the intersection of County Road 21 and County Road 142 at about 1:54 p.m.  The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office said a 2015 Honda CRV heading north was struck on the passenger side by a 2011 Subaru Forester.

The driver of the Honda, 76-year-old Mary Haney of Fairmount, West Virginia, told police she stopped at the stop sign on County Road 21 before proceeding through the intersection.  She said she did not see the approaching Subaru.

The driver of the Subaru, 61-year-old Shelley Buck of Mishawaka, Indiana, said Haney disregarded the stop sign and drove in front of her so that she was not able to react in time to avoid a collision.

Haney and Buck were both treated at the scene by paramedics and then transported to an area hospital.  Both drivers were cited for the incident, the sheriff's office said.
