Death toll updated to 4 following accident in Rio Rancho

RIO RANCHO, NM - Rio Rancho Police have released new details on a deadly accident that occurred last Wednesday, according to KRQE.

A Nissan Pathfinder and a Toyota Sequoia crashed near King Boulevard and Sheba Drive Northwest at about 5:30 p.m., and both went up in flames.  At first it was believed that two people had been killed in the wreck.

But police have now updated the death toll to four.  They were among the occupants of the Nissan: 36-year-old Craig Miller, his 6-year-old son, 1-year-old daughter, and the family's unborn child.

The mother of the children and two sons, ages 4 and 8, suffered significant injuries but were listed in stable condition.  The Toyota driver, Francisco Parades, is in critical condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

"The toll of this heartbreaking crash is immeasurable. The loss of such young, vibrant lives, alongside the tragedy of an unborn child who will never know the love of their family, is a wound that will not easily heal," said Rio Rancho Police Capt. Jacquelynn Reedy.
