PUTNAM COUNTY, IN - An accident on Interstate 70 in Putnam County Friday morning killed the driver of a pickup truck, reports WTHR.
It happened in the westbound lanes of I-70, where traffic had slowed due to a previous crash at the 30 mile marker. The driver of a 2023 Freightliner was in the passing lane and had his hazard lights on due to the slow and stopped traffic, according to Indiana State Police.
The driver of a westbound 2016 Nissan pickup truck did not notice the snarled traffic and crashed into the back of the semi at about 10:30 a.m. The pickup truck driver died at the scene, and was identified as 54-year-old Norma Rivera of New Castle, Delaware.
A man and a child who were riding in the pickup were flown to area hospitals and were expected to survive. Indiana State Police are investigating the wreck, and do not believe that drugs and alcohol were contributing factors.
