Driver injured when train hits semi at Dexter railroad crossing

DEXTER, NM - New Mexico State Police, the Chaves County Sheriff's Office and first responders were at the scene of a collision at a railroad crossing in Dexter.

A report by the Roswell Daily Record states a train crashed into a semi-tractor-trailer truck at State Road 2 and Shuswap Road shortly after 11 a.m. July 29.

An investigation indicated that the driver of the truck, 20-year-old Luis Alaniz, was going west on Shuswap Road when he crossed in front of a train, which then hit the rear of the trailer.

Alaniz, a resident of Tulare, California, was hospitalized with minor injuries.  The accident shut down the area to traffic for several hours while the scene was being cleared.

Dexter Fire & Rescue posted photos of the incident to Facebook while advising drivers to always use caution around railroad crossings.  Should any additional information come to light, our Albuquerque truck accident lawyer will update this news blog.
