Driver slams into house in South Bend following police pursuit

SOUTH BEND, IN - Police said a driver trying to flee from law enforcement officers on Thursday night crashed into a house on Addison Street in South Bend.

According to WNDU, the incident began in the area of Michigan Street and Fairview Avenue on the south side, where South Bend police tried to pull over the driver of an SUV for a traffic violation at about 6 p.m.

The driver, a 27-year-old Plymouth man, took off when an officer approached and a chase ensued, but it was discontinued due to higher speeds.  Police resumed the chase when the driver was seen going through a stop light.  The driver eventually lost control of the SUV and crashed into a home near the YMCA O'Brien Center.  No one was injured.

The driver attempted to flee the scene on foot but was later found hiding in a nearby shed. He was arrested on charges stemming from the chase as well as narcotics charges, along with unrelated warrants.
