MESCALERO, NM - Authorities responded to the scene of a fatal single-vehicle accident in Otero County last Wednesday night.
A Facebook post by Mescalero Apache Fire Rescue at 10:50 p.m. said the incident happened on Highway 70 near the Inn of the Mountain Gods New Mexico in Mescalero. No details were immediately released on who had been killed in the wreck.
The westbound lanes of Highway 70 were shut down around mile marker 246 for the crash response and investigation. Along with the Mescalero Apache squad, other emergency personnel included Mescalero-BIA Police, Mescalero Conservation and New Mexico State Police.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area if possible. An update at 12:36 a.m. reported that all lanes had reopened.
