Head-on collision in Harding County kills 1, injures 5

LOGAN, NM - A driver was killed in a two-vehicle collision on New Mexico 39 in Harding County early Wednesday morning, reports KFDA.

An investigation by New Mexico State Police found that a man was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound near Logan at about 1 a.m. when he crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2014 Toyota Sienna van head-on.

The driver of the Tahoe, 35-year-old Cesar Gomez Lucio of Hobbs, New Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was not wearing a seat belt, state police said.

The 35-year-old driver of the Toyota and four adult passengers were injured in the crash but the severity of the injuries was not disclosed.

The NMSP is continuing to investigate the incident and said that alcohol appears to be a factor.
