DECATUR COUNTY, IN - A car and a semi-truck were involved in a fatal collision in Decatur County on Wednesday morning, according to The Republic.
The incident happened on U.S. 421 near County Road 700 East at about 7 a.m. An Indiana State Police investigation found that 47-year-old Joseph L. Arthur of Indianapolis was driving a 2010 passenger vehicle southbound when he lost control of the car and crossed over the center line.
The vehicle entered the path of a northbound 2014 Freightliner semi pulling a trailer, and the vehicles collided. Arthur died at the scene.
The semi caught fire from the crash but the driver, 55-year-old Michael S. Olsen of Charlotte, Michigan, was able to get out of the truck with minor injuries.
The crash is under investigation by the ISP, who said the initial evidence indicates that speed was a contributing factor. The crash shut down U.S. 421 for about five hours for the investigation and cleanup.
