Man, 2-year-old child killed in accident on U.S. Highway 491

MCKINLEY COUNTY, NM - The New Mexico State Police released details of a fatal accident that took place in McKinley County last week.

It happened Thursday evening on U.S. Highway 491 near mile post 34 at about 6 p.m.

State Police said 64-year-old Charles Lane of Aztec, New Mexico was driving a Dodge pickup northbound when he drove off the roadway and crashed into the back of a commercial motor vehicle that was parked on the shoulder due to mechanical issues.

A 2-year-old passenger in the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene, while Lane died after being taken to an area hospital.  Two people in the parked CMV were not injured.

NMSP is investigating the collision and said that alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor.  Should any additional information come to light, our Albuquerque truck accident lawyer will update this news blog.
