TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, NM - A man was arrested after crashing into a New Mexico State Police officer's vehicle Sunday night, KTSM reports.
The incident began on Interstate 25 south of Truth or Consequences at 10:30 p.m. Authorities said 21-year-old Abraham Quezada of Las Cruces was a passenger in a vehicle with another person on I-25 when Quezada jumped out of the vehicle. When the driver of a pickup truck stopped to help, Quezada jumped into that vehicle but later got out and fled.
Following a foot pursuit, Quezada got into the vehicle of a Sierra County Sheriff's deputy and took off, according to New Mexico State Police. After the deputy and an NMSP officer fired at least one round towards the stolen vehicle, Quezada crashed head-on into the the NMSP officer's unoccupied vehicle.
Quezada was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He faces several charges, including aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.
