HENRYVILLE, IN - Indiana State Police said a driver was struck and killed Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 65.
WXIN reported details of the incident that occurred on I-65 near the 21-mile marker near Henryville at about 1:45 a.m.
State police said a Dodge pickup truck was hauling an air conditioning unit when it fell off the vehicle's flatbed trailer and was hit in the road by a Chevrolet Malibu.
The driver of the Malibu got out of his car after colliding with the air conditioning unit. The driver of a UPS semi-truck was heading north and changed lanes to avoid hitting the Malibu but struck the driver. The victim, identified as 55-year-old Matthew Shannon Campbell of Austin, Indiana, suffered fatal injuries.
The northbound lanes of I-65 were shut down for over five hours while Indiana State Police responded to the scene. All traffic was detoured through Henryville.
