Man killed in crash in Clovis following police pursuit

CLOVIS, NM - Police said a driver attempting to elude authorities was killed in a crash in Clovis last week.

KRQE reports the driver, identified as 33-year-old Manuel Delgado, was the subject of a police chase early Thursday that began in Texas and crossed into New Mexico.

According to police, Delgado was driving westbound at about 80 miles an hour when he failed to negotiate a curve near 1st Street in Clovis at about 1:46 a.m.  He struck a tree in the area of Rencher Street and Merriweather Street before his vehicle came to rest in a lot.  Delgado was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.

The Curry County Sheriff's Office and the Clovis Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident.
