Motorcyclist killed in collision with vehicle on US 491

SHIPROCK, NM - A motorcyclist died after colliding with a vehicle in San Juan County last week, according to the New Mexico State Police.

The NMSP released details of the incident that occurred May 29 on US 491 north of Shiprock.  An investigation indicated that the driver of a 2012 Toyota passenger vehicle was headed south on US 491 near mile marker 95 when the accident occurred at about 2:20 p.m.

The Toyota struck a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was also traveling south.  The motorcycle rider, 65-year-old Eddie Gilmore of Crownpoint, New Mexico, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

State Police are investigating the incident and said that speed appears to have been a contributing factor.
