LAPORTE COUNTY, IN - Traffic was disrupted along a stretch of the Indiana Toll Road on Friday due to multiple accidents during hazardous conditions, according to WNDU.
Indiana State Police said there were crashes and slide-offs that initially prompted the closure of the westbound lanes near the Exit 49 for LaPorte just after 11 a.m. The shutdown was then extended back to Exit 72 for South Bend West, stretching over 30 miles.
The westbound lanes were reopened after about five hours but emergency crews remained at the scene trying to clear away the crashed vehicles, State Police said. Drivers were advised to take SR-2 west as an alternate route.
