Multiple injuries reported in accident at Indianapolis intersection

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Indianapolis police were called to the scene of an accident on the city's south side on New Year's Eve.

WXIN reported three vehicles were involved in the wreck at the intersection of Madison Avenue and East Stop 11 Road. Officers responded to the scene shortly after 9 p.m. and determined that the collision occurred after a driver tried to exit from Greentree Street into a southbound lane of Madison Avenue.

Multiple serious injuries were reported, but there was no immediate confirmation of the number of people who had been hurt.

Police suspect that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
