Multiple injuries reported in head-on collision in West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - Police said a head-on collision in West Lafayette injured three people and killed two dogs in one of the vehicles.

WISH reports the wreck occurred on the Sagamore Parkway at 4:15 p.m. on Christmas Day.  Responding police officers found that a man had been driving a truck westbound near the Wabash River bridge when he lost control of the vehicle and swerved over the center line.  The truck then slammed into an eastbound SUV.

The SUV driver, 33-year-old Christine Carlson, had be extricated from the vehicle and was listed in critical condition after being transported to a hospital in Indianapolis. Her husband, 40-year-old Jonathan Carlston, was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.  The couple's two dogs were killed in the crash.

The driver of the truck, 32-year-old Justin Hulbert of West Lafayette, sustained minor injuries.  Police said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident but the investigation is ongoing.
