BELEN, NM - Two people were killed and two others injured in a car accident on Interstate 25 in Socorro County last weekend.
According to New Mexico State Police, the crash happened April 8 on I-25 north at about milepost 183 south of Belen.
State police investigators said a 22-year-old man was driving a 2018 Chevrolet passenger vehicle at about 2 a.m. when the car left the roadway and crashed. Two passengers in the vehicle, 21-year-old Brittny Ramos and 65-year-old Manuel Medrano, were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were residents of El Paso, Texas.
The driver and a 5-year-old passenger were taken to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The NMSP said fatigue is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor and seatbelts appear to have been properly worn.
