ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Police said a crash involving a stolen vehicle in Albuquerque Monday morning left an adult and child critically injured.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, the incident began when a man stole a state-owned vehicle from the New Mexico State Fair Grounds. The driver of the stolen Chevy SUV went through a stop sign in the area of Bell Avenue and San Pedro Drive and collided with a Jeep SUV, police said.
The driver of the Jeep and a 10-year-old girl in the vehicle were hospitalized with injuries described as life-threatening.
The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene but was later located in a nearby shed. That driver, identified as 37-year-old John Eugene Bearden Jr., now faces several charges, including leaving the scene of a crash involving serious physical injury, and great bodily harm by vehicle. Police said his blood will be tested to determine whether there was any intoxication.
