News: 2 seriously injured, including child, in SE Albuquerque accident

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Police said a crash involving a stolen vehicle in Albuquerque Monday morning left an adult and child critically injured.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the incident began when a man stole a state-owned vehicle from the New Mexico State Fair Grounds.  The driver of the stolen Chevy SUV went through a stop sign in the area of Bell Avenue and San Pedro Drive and collided with a Jeep SUV, police said.

The driver of the Jeep and a 10-year-old girl in the vehicle were hospitalized with injuries described as life-threatening.

The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene but was later located in a nearby shed.  That driver, identified as 37-year-old John Eugene Bearden Jr., now faces several charges, including leaving the scene of a crash involving serious physical injury, and great bodily harm by vehicle.  Police said his blood will be tested to determine whether there was any intoxication.
