News: 2 seriously injured, including child, in SE Albuquerque accident

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Police said a crash involving a stolen vehicle in Albuquerque Monday morning left an adult and child critically injured.

According to the Albq Journal, the incident began when a man stole a state-owned vehicle from the New Mexico State Fair Grounds.  The driver of the stolen Chevy SUV went through a stop sign in the area of Bell Avenue and San Pedro Drive and collided with a Jeep SUV, police said.

The driver of the Jeep and a 10-year-old girl in the vehicle were hospitalized with injuries described as life-threatening.

The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene but was later located in a nearby shed.  That driver, identified as 37-year-old John Eugene Bearden Jr., now faces several charges, including leaving the scene of a crash involving serious physical injury, and great bodily harm by vehicle.  Police said his blood will be tested to determine whether there was any intoxication, our Albuquerque car accident attorney adds.
