News: Elderly pedestrian struck by pickup truck in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM - Police in Santa Fe said an elderly woman was taken to the hospital following a pedestrian accident last week.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports the incident happened Thursday afternoon as the woman was crossing at the intersection of West Alameda Street and St. Francis Drive at about 4:30 p.m.

Investigators said a 45-year-old man driving a GMC pickup truck was making a right turn onto St. Francis Drive when he struck the 78-year-old victim.  She was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries and was then flown to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.

The driver told police he did not see the pedestrian before the collision.  The man stayed at the scene and called 911.  Investigators were trying to determine whether the woman was in the crosswalk at the time she was hit.
