News: Man pleads guilty in car crash that killed Air Force sergeant

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A man has pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal car accident in Albuquerque in November 2020, according to a report by KOB.

Authorities said Mohammad Hassani was driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when he crashed into another vehicle in the area of Chico Road and Eubank Boulevard.  The wreck killed a Kirtland Air Force Base airman, 28-year-old Staff Sergeant D'Andrea Smith.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Hassani agreed to change his plea of not guilty to a plea of guilty to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.  He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and five years of supervised or regular probation.  Hassani will be sentenced within 60 days.
