News: Man sentenced for crash that injured Albuquerque police officer

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A man has been sentenced to prison for a car accident last year that injured an Albuquerque police officer, reports KRQE.

28-year-old Vaughn Stands was charged with DWI with great bodily harm for the incident that occurred in June 2022.  Stands crashed into a car driven by Officer Josh Montano in the area of Eagle Ranch Road and Irving Boulevard. Montano, who was on his way home from a shift at the time, reported seeing Stands drive through a red light prior to the collision.  The suspect was also believed to have been driving well over the speed limit.

After being hospitalized and undergoing multiple surgeries for his injuries, Montano has returned to duty.  Under the terms of a plea agreement, Stands was given a reduced sentence with a maximum term of 18 months in prison, our Albuquerque car accident attorney adds.
