News: Woman charged with ramming Bernalillo County deputy's car

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM - A woman is facing multiple charges after authorities say she rammed the vehicle of a Bernalillo County deputy on Friday night.

The Albq Journal reports 18-year-old Ashley Loya was allegedly fleeing from an illegal street race near Isleta Amphitheater when the incident occurred. The racing was said to have involved about 70 vehicles and was reported in the area of Bobby Foster Road and University Boulevard.   According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, responding deputies were trying to follow the racers when Loya, driving a pickup truck, rammed a deputy's vehicle at high speed.

The pickup driver took off and nearly crashed into several other vehicles, the sheriff's office said, before eventually losing control and driving onto a rock median.

Loya and her two passengers were subsequently taken into custody.  Loya was charged with DWI, aggravated fleeing, aggravated battery against a peace officer, and leaving the scene of an accident.

The deputy whose vehicle was hit was treated and released from an area hospital, our Albuquerque car accident attorney adds.
