ESPANOLA, NM - A woman is facing charges in connection with a crash on U.S. 84 in June 2020 that left two people dead, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.
Two counts of vehicular homicide were refiled recently against Cory Christine Johnson for the fatal wreck that occurred north of Española.
According to a criminal complaint, a witness reported seeing Johnson driving south on U.S. 84 and veering into oncoming traffic. Her car then collided head-on with another vehicle, killing two people in the other vehicle - 29-year-old Felisha Barela and 23-year-old Justice Gutierrez-Cruz.
Initial charges of vehicular homicide due to reckless driving were dismissed in April 2021 due to further investigation by authorities. The newly refiled charges reflect that Johnson is now accused of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of prescription drugs that included morphine, oxycodone, and alprazolam, our Albuquerque car accident attorney adds.
