News: Woman injured when fleeing driver crashes into vehicle in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM - Authorities said a suspect being pursued by police crashed into the vehicle of another driver in Santa Fe on Sunday, leaving her critically injured.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Española officers attempted a traffic stop on 20-year-old Joseph Lovato following a reported kidnapping but he took off at high speeds.  Police said Lovato drove at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour while heading into Santa Fe on U.S. 84-285.  The suspect eventually crashed into an SUV at the intersection of St. Francis Drive and Paseo de Peralta at about 3:39 p.m.  The driver of the SUV, Beverly Heden, was hospitalized with injuries reported to be life-threatening.

Lovato, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, was subsequently arrested on multiple charges including aggravated battery, false imprisonment and aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, our Albuquerque car accident attorney adds.
