News: Woman killed in crash on I-25 after swerving to avoid water heater

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A driver was killed in a collision with another vehicle on Interstate 25 Sunday morning, according to a news release from New Mexico State Police.

A State Police officer responded to the scene on I-25 north at Montano Road at about 8 a.m.  An investigation determined that the driver of a 2002 Buick Century was headed north when she encountered a water heater laying in the roadway.

When she swerved to avoid the water heater, her vehicle collided with a 2022 Jeep gong north.  The driver of the Buick, 66-year-old Marlene Platero of To'Hajilee, New Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene.

NMSP said seat belts were properly used, and it did not appear that alcohol was a factor in the wreck, but there was no immediate indication of how the water heater ended up on the roadway.  Anyone with further information was asked to contact the State Police, our Albuquerque auto accident attorney adds.
