ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A driver was killed in a collision with another vehicle on Interstate 25 Sunday morning, according to a news release from New Mexico State Police.
A State Police officer responded to the scene on I-25 north at Montano Road at about 8 a.m. An investigation determined that the driver of a 2002 Buick Century was headed north when she encountered a water heater laying in the roadway.
When she swerved to avoid the water heater, her vehicle collided with a 2022 Jeep gong north. The driver of the Buick, 66-year-old Marlene Platero of To'Hajilee, New Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene.
NMSP said seat belts were properly used, and it did not appear that alcohol was a factor in the wreck, but there was no immediate indication of how the water heater ended up on the roadway.
