News: Woman sentenced for crash that injured toddler in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A woman was sentenced in connection with a drunk driving crash that occurred in Albuquerque in January 2022, reports KRQE.

Authorities said 42-year-old Nicole Vargas was driving under the influence when the accident happened in the area of Wyoming Boulevard and Marquette Avenue.  Vargas crashed into another car, seriously injuring a two-year-old girl in the other vehicle.

Vargas was reported to have been driving 89 miles an hour in a 40 mile an hour zone at the time, and drove through red lights.  She was arrested at the scene after failing field sobriety tests.

Under the terms of a plea agreement reached in February, Vargas pleaded guilty to one count of great bodily harm by vehicle. She was sentenced this week to three months on house arrest.
