News: Woman struck, killed by alleged drunk driver in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Police said a pedestrian was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver in Albuquerque Friday night, according to the Albq Journal.

The victim was a woman who was hit in the vicinity of Menaul Boulevard and Mesilla Street in the Uptown area sometime before 9 p.m.  Witnesses said the driver of a truck went onto the sidewalk and hit a light pole before striking the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrived and detained the driver, identified as 21-year-old James Rodriguez.  He reportedly showed signs of intoxication but refused to perform a field sobriety test.  He was subsequently arrested and underwent a blood alcohol test.   Rodriguez was charged with one count of DWI-related vehicular homicide, our Albuquerque car accident attorney adds, and was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.
