SANTA FE, NM - New Mexico State Police said they arrested a man who fled and then crashed in a stolen vehicle.
In a Facebook post, NMSP said they were dispatched to single-vehicle crash Dec. 12 on Interstate 25. Officers learned that a vehicle had crashed into the center median divider after the driver attempted to flee from a Santa Fe County deputy due to a traffic infraction.
According to State Police, the driver fled on foot but was later located and identified as 22-year-old Andi Gonzales-Perez of Santa Fe. He was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for injuries suffered in the crash.
NMSP said he tried to escape custody at the hospital, assaulted an officer following a pursuuit on foot, and tried to take the officer's gun before being taken into custody. Gonzales-Perez and the NMSP Officer sustained minor injuries as a result of the second incident.
Gonzales-Perez was booked into jail on numerous charges, including possession of a stolen motorvehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, assault upon peace officer, and driving while under the influence of drugs.
