NMSP searching for driver that struck pedestrian on I-25 in Socorro

SOCORRO, NM - The New Mexico State Police are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Socorro on Friday morning.

In a news release, the NMSP said the incident happened along Interstate 25 near mile marker 161 at about 5:30 a.m.

An initial investigation determined that the driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck was going south on I-25 and lost control while trying to avoid a deer in the road, causing the pickup to roll into the median.

The driver and passenger both got out of the truck to pick up debris and belongings.

One of the occupants, 22-year-old Adriana Jurado, was in the northbound lane when she was struck and killed by a white sedan.  The driver of the sedan fled the scene, and State Police are asking for the public's help in finding the driver and vehicle involved.  Investigators do not know the make and model of the vehicle, but said it will have heavy front-end damage on the driver side.
