PECOS, NM - The New Mexico State Police said a man was killed when his pickup truck was involved in an accident in San Miguel County early Saturday morning.
According to an NMSP news release, the crash occurred on State Road 50 in Pecos at about 12:30 a.m.
An investigation found that 26-year-old Gene Romero of Pecos was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup westbound at a high rate of speed. Romero drove off the roadway and onto the eastbound shoulder, then overcorrected and struck an eastbound vehicle head-on.
Romero was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was transported to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.
